Acrylic Landscape - Finished

As you saw with my previous post I have started a new landscape   - let me remind you..

The next part was to set out more areas in preparation for definition.....the distant hills

and then the foreground....

taking on more structure now wouldn't you say..I think you can see a path now...
-----------------------------------------------------------------

I borrowed the pathway from a painting I did last year
do you remember this one

 --------------------------------------------------------------

Using various tones of Naples Yellow, Yellow Ochre, Olive Green and a dash of Burnt Sienna I built up the banks either side of the path

I wasn't too fussy where this went, I find it better to put it on quickly with confidence
rather than starting to get tight and laboured
and you can see that with this close up ▼

Now to Send Back those distant hills using a Wash of white paint
This is where you need to use a bit more water with the paint to thin it out enough not to
completely cover those hills....it just needs to literally be a Wash

In fact I let the first layer dry and then did it a couple more times,
until I got it where I wanted it

In the foreground I added some Darks - Raw Umber on this occasion
and randomly put in some Ochre here and there.
I also added puddles to give the path some interest

As you see from the above picture I have added some more fields in the middle distance - compare it
to the previous one and you'll see it just adds to it a bit more.  I have to
admit they are not true to the Actual Scene, but a bit of artistic license here I thought!

A mix of lavender for the heather on the moor (Cad Red and Ult. Blue with some white)
and then some spots of white
(You can never go wrong with spots of white on a painting I say!!!!)

and then some grasses - not too many, just enough for the
viewer to work out what is happening...

and you have a Finished painting
here

This view is just beyond Raleigh Hill on Exmoor heading towards Taunton
(down there in the far distance)
the nearest Google image I could find is

and
Here's the process ...

Its great to see your progression shots and see how you achieved the finished result. It also shows just how much work has gone into it.

    1. Oh Sheri, you should give landscapes a go. Hopefully I've shown how straight forward they can be. The little additions, like the water, all help add to it. Surprising how something so simple can add a whole lot to it. Remember, 'Art is all an Illusion'. lol

  9. oooo I love this, not only does it remind me of my Coast path walk of last year, it's a super picture, and I love the colours. You are inspiring me! Nice to see the process too. Exmoor is lovely isn't it? My sort of landscape.

    1. Absolutely Shammickite, who would not like Exmoor I say. Go on, give this a go - do a small painting as they are easier to cope with at first, even if you only do a 'part' of a painting, all good practise :)

    1. Thanks Pat, glad you enjoyed seeing the steps for this one. I'm thinking of doing a large version, of course, that would mean putting in a lot more detail, so will have to walk this walk again and do notes and pics first.

  27. Ciao Ann,
